Principal's Report

Opening of our ANZAC garden

It was an extra special Remembrance Day at LPS last Thursday.  Not only were we able to have a commemoration ceremony with all staff and students, we then had a second smaller ceremony to mark the official opening of our ANZAC garden.  In attendance we had Peta Murphy (federal member for Dunkley), our School Council President Emma Boag, Brett ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, our landscaper Chris Pearce, School Captains and future leaders from Grade 5 to help with proceedings – with a special reading of In Flanders Fields by Oscar.

It’s nice to formally open the garden (even though it was completed back in March).

School Captain interviews

Along with our current school captains I have been interviewing our future leaders who have applied to be the 2022 School Captains.  I have enjoyed listening to them and their insights into our school.  Students have voted and the interviews are completed. Announcements will be made in December.

A few things to draw your attention to this week and hoping you have discussions within the home.

My Current Tik Tok Gripe…..

There is currently a Tik Tok challenge that is doing the rounds in which encourages children to “trash” public/school toilets.  Unfortunately, some of our students have seen this and have decided to follow through. I urge you to discuss your child’s viewing habits online and about respecting property that belongs to others – especially toilet facilities.   All children have a right to use clean and well-maintained facilities.

These types of challenges come and go but it has a longer lasting impact on our school’s finances.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Drop Off – please only drop off in the drop off zone.  This is where we have orange cones.  Dropping off in the slip lane is dangerous.  I have seen too many near misses in my time at LPS to condone this type of behaviour.

Pick Up – Please follow staff instructions. We must fit four cars into the zone each time to ensure we keep traffic moving and not block public buses coming out of EMC.  If your child is not there, ready, you may be asked to “do another lap”.  This is to ensure traffic continues to move and pick up happens safely.  Be kind and respectful of the LPS staff at all times.

Team Kids 2022

The Team Kids information night that was postponed is now scheduled for 1st December at 6.30pm via Zoom.  I will have teachers email out the link to you in their weekly emails if you would like to attend to find out more about our new provider.

Have a great fortnight,
