Magis report

Last week’s Personal Project Opening was a great success, with the quality of projects very high, the introductions impressive, and the support from teachers including the College Leadership Team really excellent. Special thanks judges: Mr Haines, Ms Galati, Ms Mason and Ms Gray for their terrific work made more difficult by the quality and diversity of projects on display.

Following are updated results giving now the final combined places for Project plus process journal as well as the highest scoring projects listed last week.

The preliminary meeting of students nominating for Magis Committee 2022 took place on Friday, and was very well attended except for current Year 10’s.  Special thanks to 2022 Magis captain Genevieve Ferguson-Allen  for coming back for this event and her enthusiastic leadership. Key planning items and new events discussed were:

  • Extending the Magis Camp to two nights and adding a Flying Fox  session
  • Chess and Shakespeare Clubs to be introduced with a Shakespeare camp at Geordie Bay, Rottnest
  • Inaugural Nomination for Senior Ethics Olympiad
  • Global World Scholar's should return with events in Australia or Singapore in 2022.

A Magis questionnaire went out this week, inviting all Magis students to comment on and make suggestions for improvement of all Magis activities.

A slightly updated version of the 2021 Magis Chronicle – incorporating the Personal Project results – is now in Magis resources and is attached via a link with this report.  The hard cover Magis Chronicles should arrive this week. Parents  may still order these.

Next week’s  report will include a preliminary calendar for 2022 Magis events.  This is complete in most aspects except  for the majority of major Gifted and Talented competitions, dates for which will not be known until January.
