Music in your heart

‘Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord’

Ephesians 5:19

In Term 4 there are numerous Music and Drama events scheduled as we celebrate the talents of our students across the College. This week we had an excellent Christmas Concert, and each secondary year level has had its own Music Recital.

Early this week (22 November), we celebrated the Feast of St Cecilia, patroness of music. Nobody knows much about her apart from the fact that she was a third century martyr who probably got associated with music by mistake. But everybody knows something about music, about its ability to carry you away, lift your spirits and establish a bond between people who share the same taste.

Music even makes signposts along a life: people will invariably associate certain songs with something they were doing when they used to listen to that song. When people speak of the 80s or the 90s, more than anything they are likely to be thinking of the music of that period. The best songs get in under our skin. We carry them around forever.

Next week we celebrate Presentation Night as an opportunity to recognise our students for their efforts over 2021. The musical entertainment is always a highlight of the evening as the skills and talents of our performers capture our hearts and our minds.

I conclude with a beautiful Loreto reflection:

‘Think of yourself as God’s song. Our lives are melodies which God sings. We are tunes which God never forgets, music which God can’t get out of his head.’

(Loreto Publication).

Thank you to our students, staff and families who add so much to creativity and enjoyment at the College.

Message to the John XXIII College community from the Stachewicz family

Eva, Dominic, Lily and I wish to thank the John XXIII community for the most comforting expressions of care received through prayers, messages, cards, flowers and meals delivered to our family since the accident that changed our lives forever this year. Eva’s physical injuries are healing well, and we are so grateful to have family, friends and faith to help us on our journey forward without our beloved Andrew.

Enjoy the holidays with those you love, and don’t ever miss an opportunity to tell someone dear that you love them.

Warmest regards

Anastasia Stachewicz
