Big Brekky

Our Big Brekky was a huge hit last Friday! It was wonderful to see families catching up with each other while they enjoyed a  a lovely spread of pastries, sausages and coffee. Thanks to Tim Karla for his BBQ expertise and to Tina Cuni for purchasing most of the goodies.

Student Leadership

Last Friday all Year 5/6 students who applied for a position on one of the Student Leadership teams had the opportunity to present themselves along with what they have to offer through our interview process. The candidates delivered a short presentation to their peers, Miss Wilkinson, Miss Anderson and me, highlighting the qualities and initiatives that they would bring to such positions.

I must commend every single student who took the time  to compose their application and present themselves to their peers... It takes courage to 'put yourself out there.'

After much deliberation,  the successful candidates were notified and they were presented to our school community at  Monday's  Assembly. We are confident they will be a true representation of our beautiful school.

Our Student Leadership structure is as follows:

Student Leaders

Morgan Vong:

My name is Morgan Vong and I am one of the Student Leaders for 2020.

I have been at Corpus Christi School since Prep and this is my final year. The things that I love doing the most are Maths and sports. I love solving Math challenges as I find it very amusing and rewarding whenever I solve the problems. I also love sports, particularly tennis and basketball because you get to work as a team and have fun with your friends.

Since the first time I put on the school uniform I knew that I would have a great time learning and making memories at Corpus Christi. My aspiration as one of the student leaders this year is to help other students to have the same positive experience that I have had at this school.

I am very grateful to be given this opportunity to be a student leader and serve the school. Feel free to find me and say hello anytime but if you need help don’t be afraid to ask for some and I will try my best to help you.

Zaira Coppleman:

Hi  I'm Zaira Coppleman.

I'm really funny, nice and sweet. I like to help others and I've always helped others for the past 7 years. I'm really happy that I am a Student  Leader and I think I will do a really good job at it and  I'm really looking forward to this year.

Brayden Le:

Hello Corpus Christi  students of 2020 and parents. My name is Brayden Le and I am happy to say that I am a student leader this year in 2020. It is an honour to represent the school as a

student leader and I hope I will have a great impact on this school. As I'm not only being a

student leader but a Year 6 student I am open to help anyone at any time and  I will show the

younger kids what to do and not to do. I hope this summary tells you what I will be helping with this year in 2020.

Molly Lim:

Hi, I'm Molly and I am one of the Student Leaders of the Year 2020.  First of all, I want to express my gratitude to all teachers for giving me this valuable chance to contribute to my school.

I am a motivated, energetic and caring sixth grader. I love to do sports, Mathematics and enjoy being in Corpus Christi itself.

I know that we leaders have goals to help our school to provide memorable education experiences for all the wonderful students who attend this outstanding school.

I wish to work with other students to reach their goals and make new friendships with people they may not know too well. I look forward to be the best version of myself this year.

Hasini Jekkula:

Hi, my name is Hasini Jekkula and I will be one of your student leaders for 2020.

I believe I have exactly what it takes to be in a leadership position. I have initiative and show it in basic day to day tasks as well as teamwork while working in groups. I am responsible and always follow the instructions I am given and complete the tasks to the best of my ability. I am also trustworthy and am true to my word at all times, and I have full confidence when it comes to speaking articulately in front of an audience. I also have sensational organisational skills so I know when, where, what and why events are happening and am up to task for anything.

I know how to solve a problem using problem solving skills to work out a solution even in the toughest complications. I have respect for everyone’s perspective and I never judge. I am also a diligent learner and always eager to learn new things everyday. Using these qualities I believe I am capable of being one of the student leaders in the school.

My name is Lucy O’Brien and I am proud to be a Social Justice Leader for 2020. I am so happy I have been given the privilege to represent the school. I look forward to learning new skills and helping others in the community that really need it. I will be working with my team of Social Justice leaders to help others in the community. If you have any suggestions or issues that our school community could help with, I am happy to discuss them with you. I look forward to seeing you around the school.

Ayrton Galliano:

Hi. My name is Ayrton and I am really excited to be a Social Justice leader in Year 5. On the interview day I had bad luck but when I got the job I felt happy. I can't wait for the year to come.

Mya Malkoun:

Hi, I'm Mya Malkoun and I am 10 years old. I am very excited to be a Social Justice Leader, so I can help the school and hopefully welcome new faces. I will make sure that I help anyone when needed.

I enjoy playing basketball on Saturday mornings with my friends, and I am also in my 3rd year of keyboard lessons at Corpus Christi.

Please come and say “Hi” if you see me in the

playground and I would love to hear your ideas you might have for 2020.

A belated congratulations to the Caguioa on the on the safe arrival of Hendrix, a baby brother to  Kingston (Year 4) and Jackson (Year 2).

Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)

We are really pleased to announce that this year Mrs Brittney Wohling will be introducing and running a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP).

Many schools across the world participate in PMP to improve learning readiness and outcomes, so this is a really exciting program for our school.

PMP is a fantastic movement-based program that helps young students improve their eye-hand and eye-foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills. It also helps them enjoy school as sessions are fun and engaging.

The purpose of PMP is to improve learning across all areas of school by extending children's perception of self (body image, body control, laterality), perception of space (handwriting,

time use, appropriate movement) and perception of time (remembering things rhythmically.)

We have decided to begin the program with students from the Year Prep community who will participate in a range of fun activities that include:

 Gross motor activities –running, skipping, rolling, dodging

 Fine motor activities- writing, using cutlery, using scissors, buttoning , lacing

 Visual motor activities - striking, kicking,  catching

 Auditory motor activities – responding to instructions and cues

 Tactile activities – describing how things feel to touch. Exploring with their touch sense

 Lateralisation activities – the ability to use both sides of the body together or separately

As the program develops and evolves we envisage  more children being able to access the program.

Internet Agreement Forms

If you haven't had the opportunity to read Student Information and Communication Technology Usage Policy (sent out via the  e-Learning page in our Newsletter)  in conjunction with the Information & Communications Technology Student Access Agreement form which your child brought home the other week, we ask that you do this immediately. The documentation explains the digital practices that Corpus Christi uses in order to keep your children safe and responsible in an ever changing digital world.

Once the agreement is signed by both parent and child and returned to school,  complete access to our ITC systems students can be granted.

Sports Uniform

Children are to wear their SPORTS uniform (2 days per week) on days where they are scheduled for Physical Education.

This week's article about  managing separation anxiety at school drop-offs is perfect for this time of the year.

NDIS: Requests for internal delivery of support from External Providers

The NDIS is an Australian Government scheme providing eligible persons with significant and permanent disability (participants) greater choice and control over the delivery of their disability support.  A consequence of participants  having greater choice and control over how their disability services are delivered is that schools are now  seeing a huge increase in requests for approval of NDIS-funded support to be delivered in the school.

To be clear in our position we have developed a school policy, guided by the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) NDIS/External Providers: Guidelines for Schools to assist us in making decisions on access of externally funded health, disability or wellbeing providers delivering services to students in schools, including those students supported by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is attached below.

Prep Learning Confereneces

This term Learning Conferences for our Prep children have been scheduled for  Wednesday 26th February: 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Please note that there will be normal classes running all day for Prep children.

As the child is at the heart of everything we do we ask that all children attend the Learning Conferences with their parents.  For Prep parents with an interview prior to 3:30pm we ask that you collect your child from their classroom and take them with you to the interview area.

We understand that at times, there may be a need to address matters that ‘aren’t meant for the child’s ears’ and we will certainly accommodate those needs towards the end of the appointment time.

We hope that the opportunity for all to take part in these Learning Conferences proves most beneficial. The meetings will be scheduled every 12 minutes. We understand that in some special cases a longer time will be required and if this is the case you are asked to make alternative arrangements with your class teacher.

Prep families are to use School Interviews Online to manage bookings.

Please go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au , enter the event code of caxcd and follow the simple instructions to book interviews for the times that suit your family.

BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN.
