This week all boys in the secondary were invited to take up the challenge to take on a 22km return hike from Charlotte's Pass to Mt Kosciusko. 22 boys took up the challenge and all made it onto the mountain in what was a tough and demanding day on them. They started at 9am and got off the track at 4.30pm.  It was a great effort that everyone was able to complete the day. Students started up the Main Range track towards Mt Twynam, which is Australia's third highest mountain, before turning towards Carruthers Peak and along the ridge of Northcote Pass. The students had to transverse some exposed areas where care was needed as well as trudging across areas where snow was still covering the path. The students then got to the top of Kosciusko for a well earned lunch break and time to cover up a few blisters appearing. After a group photo we headed down to Rawson's Pass and back towards Charlottes Pass along the Summit Walk. It was a mammoth effort for some of the boys and very rewarding as most of them had never climbed to Kosciusko or even snow. The students showed great resilience to complete the tough walk and should be very proud of their efforts.

The next day on the way home we stopped in Cooma to visit the Southern Cloud Memorial to see some of the wreckage of the plane that disappeared into the mountains which was not discovered for 28 years after the incident. After this we went and checked out the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre to learn about the engineering feats of the past and learn about the plans for Snowy 2.0. After this the students got a lesson in go-carting from Mr Blomfield in what was an enjoyable finish to a great trip.

Thanks to Mr Keighley for guiding us around the mountain and sharing so much local knowledge and Mr Howlett, Mr Jones, Mr Blomfield for helping the boys through a tough couple of days.

Girls Day Out

Unfortunately, the girls camp had to be cancelled due to the bush fires within the area that we had booked. Once the news hit the girls were all very disappointed...until Miss Tyson and Mrs Harris decided that it just wasn't fair! They put their heads together, did an awful lot of paperwork and next thing we knew, they had organised a fantastic day out in Canberra. They took the girls to: go-carting, putt putt golfing, laser tagging and an amazing pizza place where you can play board games.

The next day they had a more sedate time playing lawn bowls, having a bbq in the park and hanging out at the swimming pool.

Throughout the two days, the girls got to know one another better and learn to cooperate.

I'd personally like to thank Miss Tyson and Mrs Harris for organising the day and Miss Moorby for supervising.

SRC Bush Fire Appeal

Last Thursday K-12 students had a Mufti Day to raise funds for the NSW Bushfire Appeal. Students gave generously and we raised $174. This money will be used to support families to rebuild their lives after the devastating bushfires.

Thank you to all families who supported this appeal.
