Learning in M23

Middle School M23 Marki is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Springers Expectations – School Matrix

M23 have been reviewing the three R’s in the classroom and talking through each expectation.  We have also designed posters for the 3’Rs and what the expectations are in all areas around the school.

This term during our Wellbeing sessions we have been looking at being respectful and what makes a good friend.  The students have enjoyed designing posters and taking part in small group role plays during class time.

This week we are going to be discussing important values about how we behave outside in the playground and the importance of including others.  Our wellbeing lessons will have a focus on responsibility and what that looks like when we move around the school.

Learning time

This term we started our new inquiry topic about Aboriginal History.   M23 have embraced this topic and integrated all our reading and writing around it.  This term the students have started to investigate the significance of indigenous culture.  We have started to explore where the Aboriginals came from, where they went and what they did.  We have also looked at a timeline to compare and discuss aboriginal and European influences in Australia over the years.

In Reading this term we have been focusing our learning around the understanding sequence and searching for clue words in our reading such as first, then, next, and finally.

Our spelling focus has been on contractions and compound words.  Students have really enjoyed playing hands-on word work games and whole class warm-up games to improve our spelling skills.

In Writing, we have started our focus on Narratives.  Students have been exploring different characters and character traits.  They have also explored different settings.  Our planning stages are almost complete and we will be ready to start drafting our exciting narratives in the coming weeks.

In Maths, we have started to explore addition and subtraction and preparing our Mathematician brains for NAPLAN.  We have mainly been revisiting the CUBE Strategy and connecting this thinking with NAPLAN practise questions every day for 15min.

We have also refreshed our learning around time and confidently tell times on analogue and digital clocks.  We also practise our time skills and knowledge daily with lots of time games and challenges.
