Primary Arts Night – “BEING ME”
A reminder to all families that the annual Primary Arts Night is being held in the Neill Gymnasium at school in week 9 on Tuesday night, 25 June. The art viewing commences at 5.30 pm, and the music and dance performances commence at 6.00 pm. Parents and Friends will have some food available for sale from 5.00 pm. This is a compulsory event for ALL Primary School students, as it is the culmination of their work for the term. Return slips should now be with your son’s class teacher, and an e-copy was uploaded to SEQTA.
The boys have been working very hard to produce work to a very high standard, and it promises to be an exciting and fun-filled night.
Any further queries can be emailed through to Mrs Libby Hunter.
Middle Years Showcase
Thank you to all the Middle School Percussion Ensemble boys for preparing pieces and performing at the Middle Years Showcase on Wednesday night. They represented the school beautifully and showcased our wonderful music department.
‘SOUND ADVICE’ Music Industry Expo
In collaboration with the Prospect Council and Music SA, Blackfriars are hosting the first ever ’Sound Advice’ workshop, hosted at Blackfriars next week on Thursday 13 June, 2-5 pm. This event is aiming to promote contemporary, alternative and modern career pathways in the music industry as an option to more traditional, established pathways through the Elder Conservatorium and other such institutions.
Covering topics such as DJ'ing, Events and Artist Management, Rap/Hip Hop, Sound Engineering, Recording and more, the Sound Advice Project will be structured in a particularly practical manner, built to engage students in each industry area through expert demonstration and hands-on youth involvement. Students attending will be greeted by Tom Gordon, the Industry Development Coordinator at Music SA, where he will explain Music SA and its role in contemporary music as a strong career pathway. After this short address students will visit the participating industry professionals and learn about their particular career pathway and experience within the music industry. To complete the session, students will be spoken to about career pathways in the Australian music industry, directing them to the VET courses that Music SA offers, to nurture and facilitate this interest.
The aim of the aforementioned initiative is that Music SA will give the students vital knowledge on the inner workings of the Australian Music Industry, realistic and varied career pathways, along with rare opportunities to work with well-known, professional musicians within a practical and engaging environment.
There are limited spots available so please get in your response as soon as possible to avoid missing out. It would be great to see as many Blackfriars students at the event as possible as we have such talented musicians. If you wish for your child to attend this event, please get in contact with me as soon as possible at lpope@bps.sa.edu.au
