Ax Academic Extension Program

Blackfriars Priory School Newsletter    - Term 2 Week 2 - 2018

On 5 April, students of the new Blackfriars A ͯ  Academic Extension Program attended the ‘BiG Day In’ at the University of Adelaide. This event was an opportunity for young STEM enthusiasts across Adelaide to get an insight into the professional IT world, and to ask leading professionals any questions about what their jobs involve.

The first speaker was Mark Cuggy, who is the Client Executive for Microsoft in South Australia. He talked about his journey to the role he is in currently, and gave us an insight how IT companies work in general, and what employers for these companies look for.

After Mark Cuggy, speakers from WiseTech Global spoke to us about software engineers (coders), and the project management that goes behind what the engineers do.

Many other speakers followed these insightful talks, and all of them gave us information about different aspects of the IT world.  In doing so, they convinced me and many other Ax members that a job in the IT world might be the one for us.  All in all, we can’t wait to go to more events like this and learn more about the professional STEM world.
