Bite Back Mental Fitness Challenge

The House Captains have met early this term and have agreed to commit to the Bite Back Mental Fitness Challenge by The Black Dog Institute. This is a free online positive psychology program that is targeted to adolescents aged 12-18 years, with a particular focus for 13 to 16 years. The program is evidenced based and is a six week challenge that covers gratitude, mindfulness, social connections, identifying strengths, meaning and purpose. The program is done privately by each student and I strongly encourage other students to go the following link: Mental Fitness Challenge for more information and to create an account. There is also a chance to win a $250 voucher by completing the program as an added incentive! I would even encourage parents to go online and explore this through the link.

Year 7 Camp

Year 7 students go on their camp to Douglas Scrub in Week 4 (23 May). Students have had an information session presented by Wilderness Escape Outdoor Adventures and there has also been a range of conversations in class to support their preparation. The camp is a challenging and rewarding experience and a great opportunity to strengthen relationships with peers and staff. It is important students ask questions of their teacher as they prepare for the camp (and parents are also encouraged to make contact with Key Teachers if they have any questions) and that they take on as much of the preparation themselves independently to ensure they are understanding of all the requirements and achieve the best outcomes.

'Cyber Bully' Presentations

Also on Wednesday 23 May, we have presentations at the school for all Year 8 and 9 students from Starrs Productions. The presentations is ‘Cyber Bully’ and this is a play that represents realistic issues for adolescents on cyberbullying. Students should leave with a  range of thoughts about the impacts of cyberbullying and how it can occur. The presenter has been working on these types of plays for students for approximately 20 years at schools across the country.
