Primary Co-Curricular

It was a field of colours at Primary Sports Day

Primary Co-Curricular Report

Primary Sports Day

On Friday 6 April, at the end of last term, the Primary School Sports Day was held in perfect autumn weather. There was not a breath of wind and the sun shone magnificently throughout.

Following the trials conducted in PE lessons, the scores between the all four Houses were very close and only 12 points separated 1st from 4th. Only 3 points separated 2nd from 4th. The carnival was set up for a close finish if the trial results provided an accurate form guide!

Athletics Results

The overall result remained in the balance throughout and it wasn’t until the distance races and relays that Cussen separated themselves from the pack and ran away with the title.

1st: Cussen (White) - 608

2nd: Spence (Gold) - 561

3rd: Dowling (Blue) - 547

4th: Candler (Red) – 505

Sports Spirit Shield

Congratulations to Candler (Red) for claiming the Sports Spirit Shield. The Spirit Shield was awarded after an accumulation of points from the Swimming Carnival and throughout the term for good deeds done around the school. Congratulations not only to Candler, but to all Houses for their effort and spirit.

1st: Candler (Red) - 64

2nd: Dowling (Blue) - 61

3rd: Spence (Gold) 58

4th: Cussen (White) – 48

There are many people to thank who contributed to the success of the day:

  • The Primary staff always do a stellar job throughout the event
  • The athletes at both the field and novelty events were well behaved and competed in the right spirit
  • Mr Baldacchino and his Year 11 PE class assisted at various stations
  • The parent and family supporters who come along and encourage their children
  • The House Captains and Vice-Captains who did a terrific job both on the day and in the lead up to the event

Winter Co-Curricular

All teams are back in action this Winter season. For all information regarding Co-Curricular fixtures, maps and training schedules, please familiarise yourself with the Co-Curricular section in the Parent Portal on SEQTA. Information is regularly updated via SEQTA. Coaches and managers will also email parents in many instances with notices or specific information regarding your son’s team/group. Please check these communication lines frequently for updates.

The basketball and lacrosse teams had fixtures programmed in Week 1 whilst the soccer, chess, robotics, debating and art club programs kick off formally in Week 2. Your sons would have been contacted by the appropriate staff supervisors with further details.

Basketball

The Year 4/5 team under the direction of Mrs Rowley consists of a number of players that have never played before. They were defeated in their first game but learnt a lot from their first competitive hit-out. With training and some coaching the boys will quickly develop their skills and understanding of the game.

Mr Vo is coaching the Year 6/7 teams this season. The Year 6/7 Black team consists of the more experienced boys and is playing in the A division whilst the Blue team is playing in the B division at Mars Stadium. The Black team had a good win in their first game against Walkerville whilst the Blue team came up against a more experienced opposition and went down.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse team played their first game of the season on Saturday against our affiliate club, The Eagles. Most of the boys are in their second season with boys ranging from Year 2-6 in the side. Considering most of the boys hadn’t done much practice, Blackfriars played a terrific game. The passing and catching was good and the boys ran really hard to make space to create chances. The final score was 7-7.

On a final note, I encourage all Primary boys to enjoy the experience of being a part of a group or team, but to recognise the importance of how you carry yourself and how you support your peers.

Commit: to being the best teammate and competitor you can be

Respect: your peers, opposition and the referees no matter the situation within or the outcome of a game

Enjoy: sport is a game – games are meant to be played for enjoyment! Have fun!

All the best this winter season!
