100 years of Remembrance Day

Lest we forget

There are few things in the word as powerful as a minute silence.  The eerie moment where the world pauses to pay respects to those who have served their country during war.

The sound of the bugle playing always sends shivers down my spine.

There is nothing so poignant than the selling of poppies in shopping centres by volunteers who ensure the memory of the sacrifice by brave women and children stays alive.

In this the 100th anniversary of Remembrance Day moments, we pay our respects.

Attendance, every minute, every day, every student is important.

End of Yearitis

The end of a school year can bring about a lot of feelings for students.  With that, the patience in social groups and from adults can be a little strained.  It is this time of year that we need to be more aware of our actions, words and reactions.  I highly encourage parents to stay consistent with high expectations and continue to be positive role models, as will be at school.  The home and school partnership is the strongest bond so students know we are in this together.

If you have awellbeing concern about your child/ren please email their classroom teacher.

Mobile Phone Policy

From Term 1, 2020

The Mobile Phone Policy is a ministerial policy formally issued by the Minister for Education under section 5.2.1(2)(b) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.

Summary – Critical information

  • From Term 1 2020, students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours.
  • Exceptions to the policy may be applied if certain conditions are met. Exceptions can be granted by the principal, or by a teacher. Exceptions must be documented.
  • Where students bring a mobile phone to school, the school must provide secure storage.
  • Schools are required to develop a local Students Using Mobile Phones policy, which must include how this Ministerial policy will be implemented.
  • Schools will manage non-compliance with their local mobile phone policy in accordance with their existing student engagement polices.

Early Departures after Foundation Step Up to School Program

We are now half way through our Step Up to School Program for those attending Foundation at CSPS in 2020.  It has been wonderful to see so many smiling and confident faces participating in classroom based activities in preparation for the year to come.

We are aware that families with current and Foundation 2020 students have an extra drop off and pick up as a result of this program, however it is not encouraged that students are signed out early.  Each day is carefully planned with valuable teaching and learning experiences that we expect each student to be a part of.

We repectfully ask that you refrain from collecting students early after this program.

Child Safe Standards

Creating a safe environment - Cybersafety

81% of a child's life is spent OUTSIDE of school.  Therefore the greatest positive influence to keep your children safe are the adults in the home.

What could you do if you think your child is being cyberbullied?

  • Try to resist immediately taking away their device
  • Stay calm and open — don’t panic
  • Listen, think, pause
  • Act to protect your child if necessary
  • Empower your child
  • Collect evidence
  • Manage contact with others
  • Seek support from your child’s school
  • Encourage positive connections and coping strategies
  • Stay aware
