As we have in previous years, we will be holding a Catch club which will run every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3.15-4pm in B2 so students can come and receive extra help on any class work or assessment tasks they need. There are also computers in this room which they can use to help complete their set work. Each one of those afternoons we have 2 staff members who have kindly volunteered their time to aid the students any way they can.
We ask that you keep a close eye on your children getting to home group on time for the start of the day, in full school uniform. Getting to school on time ensures a good beginning to the day and sets up good work habits for later in life. The School Council sets policy for school uniform and it is an expectation that all students adhere to the policy. We also ask that if you haven’t logged onto Compass yet, that you get your login details from the front office. You can check your child’s attendance, lateness and any work tasks set by teachers.

Andrea Pearce is the Year 7 and 8 Campus Leader and overseas both Junior Teams (E and H) at Sydenham. Your Home Group teacher is your first point of contact for your student but you are also able to contact us at any time with concerns or queries. Please check your student’s diary regularly for notes from teachers and homework tasks. Please support him or her to complete their homework.
All of our Year 7 and Year 8 students have settled in to Secondary School at Copperfield College and their new routines quickly and with enthusiasm. We have noticed that our current Year 8 students have made the transition from Year 7 with ease and confidence. The Year 7 students have already experienced some of what Secondary School has to offer; they have learnt how to open their combination locks on their lockers, they are comfortable reading their timetables and have settled into all their subject classes with ease and confidence.
Year 7s will be participating in our Iron Form Day. It will be a day filled with team building activities. Home groups will create banners, mottos, and songs that represent the classes’ team spirit. There will also be a trivia session followed by a sausage sizzle. To finish the day there will be several fun races.
Term 1 is a very eventful time; On Tuesday the 5thth of February the Year 7 and 8 students at Kings Park and Sydenham participated in the Swimming Sports at St Albans. They have also participated in the “Elevate Education” program where students learn about study skills. Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 meet and greet was on Tuesday 19th of February. Year 7 immunizations are on 22nd of February. School photos are on Monday 25th of February.
Thank you to students, staff and parents for all of your support.

15th -19th July 2019

Robotics Teams In The World Championships!
Congratulations to our students who qualified to represent Australia at the 2019 VEX Robotics World Championships in Kentucky!
Our Year 8 and Year 10 students from the Sydenham Robotics Club competed against over fifty of Australia’s best teams late in 2018, with both teams awarded Excellence Awards for their respective divisions, qualifying them for the VEX Robotics World Championships which are to be held in Kentucky, USA, from April 24 to April 27, 2019.
Special congratulations to our Year 10 team who won the competition overall making them the Australian National Champions for 2018!
Parents of the students involved have committed to a tour that will enable these teams to compete in the World Championships. The tour will be a fantastic opportunity for the students to not only compete on a ‘World Stage’ and meet other students from around the world, but to also experience overseas travel under the guidance of experienced teachers.
The College is making every effort to support this tour by seeking sponsorship and donations so that the overall cost to parents is as low as possible. We already have a number of financial commitments towards the estimated overall cost and we are interested in sourcing more support! Should any parent or community member have an idea regarding how these students can be supported please contact the College’s Executive Assistant Ms Belinda Palladino by either phone 9307 5514 or email palladino.belinda.m@edumail.vic.gov.au
