Delahey Campus Principal Message

Welcome back to all our VCE and VCAL students.  It is so pleasing to have had a smooth start to the year.  Teachers have reported how engaged students are in their learning and the common words we hear are “I love my class”.  Students at Delahey haven’t had much time to settle in and slowly get to reacquaint themselves with the campus as they are straight into their classes, homework and study every night.

Information Evenings and Compass

Thank you to all the parents and students that attended the VCAL or VCE Information evenings.  We are continually looking for ways to invite parents/carers to our college as students perform at their best when we have a strong relationship between the school and home.  Compass is used extensively as a method of communication with both parents and students.  As a parent I urge you to actively check your Compass.  If you need assistance with log in then please contact the Delahey office.

Year 11

Year 11 students had the opportunity to work on building strong relationships within their mentor group by participating an Empower Day.  Elite athletes through the ‘Coach Approach’ program conducted activities focussing on teamwork, empowering dynamics and mindfulness.  It is important that we support students in their academic performance but just as vital that we teach and support students to build skills that they will need after they complete their schooling.

Year 12

Year 12 students attended ‘MEE Day’ at La Trobe University Bundoora.  Visiting a university campus gives students the opportunity to experience what campus life would look like and feel like.  La Trobe is in a beautiful, serene setting which is not what students expect.  Many of them commented that they would now consider La Trobe as an option after the visit.  Sometimes the idea of university can be a bit daunting so the experience of a day visit alleviates the anxiousness and students can see that young people like them are there and that they can feel comfortable with their choice.

The mental and emotional wellness of our students is most important.  Whilst we have many people for students to talk to about their stresses sometimes they just need to take timeout to relax.  We are offering yoga every Wednesday at 1.30pm in the gym.  This is free to attend.  Relaxation and breathing help keep stress levels under control and help students cope with the pressures that their final years of schooling can bring.  Please come along and learn to relax together.
