Art Excursion

A Year Ten excursion to the Bendigo Gallery on Monday, February 10 proved to be a hit with students.

The Josh Muir exhibition of highly coloured, almost Street art type graphics, by a First Nation artist, was the focal point of the excursion. The digital component of this exhibition involved holding an iPad so that it was centred on a Muir artwork, and with a click on the Ipad the images sprang into action via a video app. Students followed up with a “hands-on workshop” where they created self-portraits using unrealistic colour and free form backgrounds. Students were also able to view a further six gallery spaces filled with contemporary artworks on loan from Paul Guest. Guest is a former judge and former Olympic rower who generously lends artworks from his large collection to the Bendigo Gallery, as well as sponsoring the Biennial Paul Guest Prize for Drawing. The current exhibitions are free and they are well worth visiting.
