Foundation News

At the end of Term 3, to enrich our inquiry learning about ‘living things’, the Foundation children visited the Cranbourne Gardens Education Program. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the needs of plants as living things and how they reproduce.

It was a wonderful stroll around the native gardens where our guide encouraged us to use our senses to discover the wonders of nature and the environment.

This term, in Inquiry we continue to inquire about ‘living things’ and what is needed for them to stay alive. We are busy planting seeds and discovering which conditions best enhance growth. For the next few weeks we will turn our inquiring minds to the needs of animals. This leads to an exciting incursion and excursion, both in November – ‘The Zoo comes to You’ and a visit to The Zoological Gardens - Melbourne.

We also announce that the Foundation Concert will be held on Thursday evening, 15th November in the school hall.

The term 4 swimming program dates are Monday 3rd December to Thursday 13th December. Please ensure you have processed your consent & payment via Compass before the due date. An invitation for parent helpers at these events will follow closer to the time.

Please remember, all parent helpers need a Working with Children Card if you wish to volunteer to assist at any of these events as well as ensuring that you have completed the OPS Child Safe Code of Conduct. Please check with Brodie if you are unsure if you have completed the Code of Conduct. You can apply the Working With Children online through their website. Please provide the school office a copy of your card.

It’s always busy in term 4, we thank you for your ongoing assitance and support

Year 4 News

At the end of term 3 the Year 4 students showcased their Genius Hour Projects to various classes and many parents and friends. Students set-up their projects in the hall and thoroughly enjoyed responding to questions about their projects. Genius Hour is a movement which provides students with a choice as to what they will learn over a set period of time in school.

Whilst the origins of Genius Hour are not certain, some say it came from the search-engine company Google which allows their engineers to spend 20% of their time on a pet project. The feedback from Year 4 students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive in regards to Genius Hour with many students wanting to undertake another project this term. The Year 4 teachers have observed  high levels of  student engagement and curiosity during this time.
