From the Director of Primary

Lauren Hall

Welcome back to Term Two.  I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable time over the holidays.  It was lovely to see so many refreshed and happy faces on the first day back along with the excitement in the playground with friends reuniting and catching up.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and 5 classes will be participating in NAPLAN Testing next week. If your child is absent on one of those days then a follow up test will take place when they return.

A reminder that this is one test on one day.  We need to keep this testing process as stress free for our students as possible.  If you have any questions in regards to NAPLAN then please don’t hesitate to ask either the class teacher or myself.  We are more than happy to answer your questions.

Learn to Swim Program

Our Years 1, 2, 4 and 6 students will be participating in an excursion to Collegiate Pool from Monday 10 - Friday 14 May to participate in the Learn To Swim Program.  The aim of the program is to offer students of all abilities the opportunity to become water aware in the aquatic environment.

The Program times for each class group are set out below. Students in Year 6 White must arrive at school by 8.40am as the bus will depart promptly at 8.50am.

For each day of the Program students must:

  • Wear their bathers under their College sports uniform;
  • Bring a swimming cap (compulsory), a towel, a plastic bag (for wet gear), underwear and goggles (optional);
  • Carry all items in the College navy sports bag or the College school bag;
  • Ensure all items are clearly named.
  • Please note that girls must wear one-piece bathers and these may be folded down under the sports uniform. It is suggested that girls with long hair wear it in a plait to enable caps to be easily put on and hair to be manageable after swimming.
  • Boys are to wear swimming bathers not board shorts.

Circle of Life

On Tuesday evening our Years 5 and 6 students, together with their parents, were invited to attend Circle of Life.  Thank you to those students and families who supported the evening. It was led beautifully by Monique Hall who touched upon some sensitive subjects in a very caring and compassionate way that was easily  understood by everyone in the room.

Our Years 3 and 4 session will be held later in the year.

Fidget Toys

As the craze of fidget toys has hit many of our primary classrooms, we do ask that only those students who have a fidget toy as part of their Learning Plan or it has been agreed upon in consultation with their class teacher, bring these toys to school to be used in the classroom environment. If your child brings one for other reasons then they are the responsibility of the child and must stay in their bag during class times.

At the end of every term we announce the winners of the Sadie Cleaning Awards.  Miss Rosie and Miss Sheryl look for the tidiest and cleanest classrooms at the end of each day and award them with a golden star on their classes cleaning chart.  This year we have some new cuddly creatures for the award winning classes to care for.  Below are the classes that were the cleanest and tidiest for Term One.  Congratulations to Year 5 Navy, Year 4, Year 3, Year 2 and Year 1.
