2021 St Simon House Cross Country Championships

This week on Friday 23rd April, our students will take part in the House Cross Country Championship on site at St Simon the Apostle Primary School. This will involve all students from Prep to Year 6 competing again for their House over long distance running. The first race begins at 9:00am and concludes at 1:25pm.  A timetable of the day's events and an outline of the track through the school can be viewed below. The Prep race will be a small track around the oval.

The following distance will be run by each year level.

Prep: 200m

Year 1: 1km

Year 2: 1km

Year 3 & Year 4: 2km

Year 5 & Year 6: 3km

Parents are more than welcome to attend on site on the day along our cross country course to cheer on their child/ren. Parents can watch the race on the oval near the finishing line, on the basketball court or at the pick area near the office.

To remain COVID Safe, we ask all parents who visit our school to watch their child/ren run to sign in using the QR Codes placed around the school and to keep a social distance of 1.5m away from each other.

On Friday, students are permitted to wear:

A coloured T shirt according to their school house colour with their St Simon's sport shorts. Suitable running/sport shoes for the day.  Students are not to have coloured hair for the day.

Students can wear coloured ribbons, hats, headbands and wristbands for the day. (We will be judging students for the House Spirit Award).

The times for the Year 3 to 6 races will be used to select our District Cross Country team as well as data collected from our Physical Education program. The District squad will be running Friday 30th April.

We look forward to the day ahead seeing you all there and wish each House every success.

Rowville District Inter School Sports Winter

This year, we welcome with great anticipation the return of our Rowville District Winter Interschool Sports. Our Winter Sport competitions, taking place on Friday 28th May and Friday 11th June, will consist of the following sports: AFL Football, Soccer, Netball, Fully Loaded Tee Ball and Jack Attack Lawn Bowls.

The aim on these days is to increase student engagement and involvement while promoting fundamental skills in each sport, good sportsmanship and teamwork.

On both of these scheduled days, students will have the opportunity to represent the school competing against other schools or be part of an in-house competition against their peers.

The selection of teams to represent the school at these competitions will be based on students nominating and trying out for the sport they wish to compete in.

All students were able to nominate 2 sports they wish to try out for.

Expert coaches in the various sports, which will include teachers will conduct the try-outs and select the students to represent the school at each sport.

Students who unfortunately are not selected to represent the school will not miss out. They will be part of an in-house competition run by teachers or coaches to enhance their skill in a sport.

Also, it is guaranteed that all Year 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity to represent the school at least once either at the Winter Sports or Summer Sport this year.

We are open to assistance from parents and if you wish to support us with your expertise at a try-out or coaching a team please contact Mr Karl Camerino.

Term 2 Inter School Sports Update

This Term there are a few Inter School Sport opportunities on offer for students. For some of these sporting events, students at St Simon can put their hand up to give these sports a go such as the AFL Girls Football. Other sports will be based on sporting skills such as the District, Division and Regional Cross Country and Winter Sports.

We encourage all parents to encourage their child/ren to be involved in these sporting opportunities and look forward to having parent helpers as coaches at these various events.

If you wish to volunteer as a coach at one of these events, please contact Mr Karl Camerino.
