MGC Law Week Event: Lawyer Q&A Panel
Xara Hudson, Humanities Captain
Law Week commenced this Monday: a nationwide publicization of our legal system, spanning May 18-24. Public events have been organised by different bodies throughout the nation. This year, all Law Week events – both public and private – have been run online. In recognition of Law Week, the Humanities Team hosted a successful Question & Answer panel on Tuesday 19th of May. The panel was composed of six inspirational women lawyers, four of whom were MGC alumni, who contributed their knowledge and experience to the audience. The discussions centred around studying law at a tertiary level, the variety of careers in the legal profession, work experience and internship opportunities in law, the experience of working as a lawyer and the process of becoming a lawyer. The Humanities Team thanks the panellists who generously gave of their time: Shivani Pillai, Phoebe Dunn, Suzie Rule, Karina Popova, Alexandra Yorston & Phoebe Rahn. We would also like to thank the staff of Melbourne Girls’ College who assisted and supported the organisation of the event. If you were unable to attend the event and would like to view a video of it, the recording is available to be viewed on Microsoft Teams at https://bit.ly/3czsVoS
Another project in the same vein is currently in progress: a recorded Q&A interview video featuring several other MGC Alumnae who are currently in the legal profession. The list of panellists and other details of this project are to be confirmed. However, plans have been made for the video to be distributed during the next fortnight.
