Year 7 Competitions While is Isolation

By Nora Dandurand - 7L2

One of the major downsides of isolation is the lack of social events. The Year 7 Student Council wondered what we could do to bring the Year 7 cohort together in this strange time, whilst being safe and healthy. You may feel alone and socially isolated, along with being physically isolated, and technology can only do so much. We wanted to keep up the house pride and competitions during social distancing, so the Year 7 Student Council came up with the idea to have competitions for house points over Microsoft Teams, using resources like the channel function. Relating to current events and fun inclusive topics, the themes have included, dressing up as characters from shows we binged; ANZAC day; isolation memes; distancing videos; Finish The Drawing; riddles; and 3D creation masters. All of these competitions are judged by a variety of teachers.

We wanted to make the competitions as inclusive as possible, while still maintaining a simple structure and format. We wanted the themes and activities to relate and be enjoyable to everyone. Participants don’t need uncommon items and the criteria is very open-ended.

By doing these competitions, it allows students to connect, while still being safe. They’re fun, easy and a great way to show house pride and earn points for the respective houses.

Stay safe, earn house points and have fun!
