Performing Arts and Remote Learning

Mood

In year 10 ‘remote learning’ drama we have been exploring the eight dramatic elements. We began by exploring MOOD. In the following clip you will see how the year 10 drama students were able to evoke a sense of mood, taking inspiration from the award winning children’s book, “Ziba Came On a Boat”, written by Liz Ofthouse and illustrated by Robert Ingpen. In the story Ziba, a refugee girl, is at sea on a boat pondering her fate. I hope you are as impressed as I was, by the ways students in this class adapted to alternative ways to create drama, and made creations that capture the mood created in the picture book. Please enjoy!

VCE Music

Congratulations to our year VCE Music students, who have been continuing to rehearse, perform and complete SACS on their instruments via video.

Year 9 AW

Year 9 Actors’ Workshop have been exploring being a teenager, the stereotypes and the reality. They also had to create an advertisement for a new product. Now they are working in small groups on a TV show.

Year 7 Performance

Year 7 Performance have been allocated a Capital City to entice people to come visit once Covid restrictions are lifted. They had to research their city and promote it by creating a poster and an ad, and are now working in small groups on a TV News Show.

Presenting Ellipses

Congratulations to Charlotte Thomas, Roxy Maslin and Alice McGinty, and former MGC student, Rita Cahill, who are in a band called "Ellipses". ( An earlier iteration called the Green Girls has played at MGC's  pedal power cinema.)

They  recorded their debut EP late last year and were going to release it on the back of a few gigs when the lock down hit.  Undeterred, they released the EP on Bandcamp last Monday http://ellipses2.bandcamp.com/album/ellipses

In the past week it has been picked up and played on PBS in Melbourne, Radio Blau in Leipzig, Germany and Radio WRFU Urbana, Illinois!

Fee B-Squared also did a great piece on the girls last night on her show Map on 3RRR.  The link is below, their  bit starts at 1.30

Performing Arts in Isolation

Our wonderful performing arts students continue to hone their craft during isolation, and we would like to share a snippet of some of the amazing things they are doing. We truly appreciate the commitment of our students and staff during these challenging times. Thank you to our MGC parents especially for supporting you child’s creative endeavours. In this time of restriction, the role of the arts becomes more central to our lives and allows us to connect with each other. Please enjoy this video. We can’t wait to see you all back at school.
