Acting Principal’s Report

Brent Houghton

As I sit out on the balcony near my office writing this update, I am once again reminded of the importance of gratitude, and why it’s as important as ever at this time. Studies have demonstrated that people who make time to appreciate the good things around them have higher levels of happiness. I’m grateful for having the opportunity to work at and lead this wonderful school, with a view of the Yarra and the occasional kookaburra visit:

Better than the views are the fact that I get to work with a great bunch of students, school leaders, teachers and education support staff every day. I look forward to seeing more of you in person, around the school, from next week. In particular, I hope our Year 7 students are looking forward to having their very own new courtyard when they return in a couple of weeks’ time.

Big thanks to Glen, our Facilities Manager, who has been managing this project. It’ll be nice for me to get to know some of our newest members of the MGC community, from right outside my office, when you return to school soon.

Finally, I want to thank our students for the feedback that they have been providing us about remote learning and the return to school. In our most recent survey we asked senior students if they wanted to give a shout out to any of their teachers, and there were hundreds of responses, three of which are below.

Along with their families, we must be doing something right at MGC when we are producing such thoughtful and grateful human beings.
