Your College Advisory Board

Your College Advisory Board…..over the coming Newsletters we would like to introduce the Board, what it represents and who the members are.

 

As part of the Schools administration and management is the College Advisory Board.

 

As the name indicates the role of the Board to assist the Principal and the Parish Priest in the overall management of the school in an advisory capacity utilising the expertise or skills they bring to the table.

 

They Board members can be nominated by the Parish Priest or put forward by others with a reference to a skill or area of expertise they may have that will suit the composition of the Board and their support to the school and its management and the Parish Priests who are responsible for the School.

 

The constitution that the Board operate under has the following preamble that gives a very good indication of its purpose:-

1. PREAMBLE (Extract from the March 2019 Constitution)

“The College Advisory Board operates as the principal consultative and advisory body in the school. The College Advisory Board is accountable to the Canonical Administrators. This body acts as an advisor on strategic planning, support to the Principal, school renewal and development, policy, and general leadership. The sole purpose ultimately being to serve and work toward the mission and vision of the College.”

 

The members of the Board are nominated from all the Parish’s that are Members of the region that St John’s operate in or from skills they may have and are ex-students:

  • St Mary’s, Dandenong
  • Holy Family, Doveton
  • St Paul’s Apostle, Endeavour Hills
  • St Kevin’s, Hampton Park
  • St Anthony’s, Noble Park
  • And includes Resurrection Parish, Keysborough

 

To ensure that there are representatives across the community, the members can include representatives from the Parish’s as listed above, a staff member, representative from the Parents & Friends, an Honorary Accountant, others based on skills sets to support (preferably ex St Johns students).

 

The Board meetings are held twice a term and held at the School (except lately which has been by Zoom) and are very informative and well run and documented.

Expressions of Interest – Finance Committee Member of St John’s Regional College Board

Due to the recent resignation from the school board of Ms Kellie Walden , St John’s is looking to appoint from our School Community a new member of the Finance Committee to assist in overseeing the financial planning of the College and to make recommendations to the College Board and Association of Canonical Administrators.  Expressions of interest in this appointment must meet the following criteria:

  • A past student or current parent.
  • Accounting qualification.
  • Preferred Membership of CA or CPA
  • Ability to attend up to 8 meetings per annum - duration 2-3 hours from 6:00PM on a Tuesday during term time.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to review and interpret Financial reports and provide feedback.
