Assistant Principal News

g

It has been wonderful to have all of our students and teachers back at School interacting and learning. The playground is active, classes are engaging and our MCC Community is thriving once again.

Despite this return to normality, we are still practising safe social measures. This week, and for the rest of this term students will participate in Zoom Year Meetings so that vital information can be shared by the Pastoral Leaders during their Homeroom time.

In addition, this week the College held its first ever Zoom Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences for Year 12. We are pleased to say that these Conferences were a huge success with a large majority of parents and students engaging in learning conversations with the teachers. Students who attended gained key advice on their achievements, strengths, areas of improvement and ways to do this.

The period following the reports and conferences now becomes vital for Year 12 students to refocus, reflect and refine. As they pass the halfway part of their course it is pivotal that students refocus their attention on their overall learning goals for the HSC. At this time of the year, it can be easy for students to become distracted by external factors, hence it is important that they take time to resettle themselves and refocus their attention.

We also ask Year 12 students to reflect on their Mid Course Results and Learning. We ask parents and students to engage in productive discussions determining how to best move forward. Students may need to reflect on their attitude towards their results - simply becoming disheartened and negative about a result will not lead to a productive outcome. Focus on teacher feedback and seek clarification with your teacher on ways to improve your result.

This leads to the chance to refine your current practices. After reflection, if results do not meet your goals and expectations you may have to change your way of study, your process of exam preparation or your extracurricular activities. We ask parents to support their child in having these mature, productive and positive conversations moving forward.

Finally, also a reminder to all of our parents that if your child is engaging in the use of social media platforms such as Snapchat and Tik Tok, they are not allowed to film in their college uniform or on College grounds. As a part of our ‘ Safe use of technology’ policy students are forbidden from filming on school grounds for the privacy and safety of all staff and students. Any students found recording will have their devices confiscated.

Yours in Learning,
