Returning to school - Years 3 to 6 - Wellbeing

Some further thoughts for parents....

Dear Students and Parents,

Last week we have seen some fantastic resilience in our youngest students. Saying goodbye at the gate to mum or dad, grandma or grandpa, sibling or carer wasn't always easy but the students (and parents) were ab-so-lute-ly amazing. Great job everyone.

Our teachers have been:

1. Taking time to reconnect with all our students

2. Making time to talk

3. Embedding wellbeing and circletime in everyday school

4. Giving time to adapt to school again

5. Finding ways to laugh often

We will continue to do these things throughout the school day and monitor the wellbeing of students on an ongoing basis.

What can you do to help you child settle back into school?

Besides the tips we gave last week:

  1. Be positive about going back to school
  2. Don't under-estimate your child's resilience
  3. Trust our teachers to deal with issues appropriately, they will help your child settle back into school and will contact you when necessary.
  4. Encourage your child to express how they feel and validate their concern.

We give you these tips for our older students:

  1. Get back into your sleep routine. To help eradicate those stressful school mornings, set up a regular bedtime and morning time routine to help prepare your child for school.
  2. Re-establish school routines. Have your child practice getting back into the rhythm of their daily school routine. This will help them be rested and ready for the big day.
  3. Turn off the TV and video games.
  4. Read the school newsletter regularly and stay up-to-date with the latest information from school
  5. Get in touch with the teacher of your child when  you feel you need to, we are here to help

Together we will make returning to school a great success!

If your child needs further emotional support, please be in contact with the school or you can call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.
