Ministry and Care

Pastor Peter Janetzki

Recently, I read that Christian communities possess three key features.  Each of these features can be represented by an everyday object.  Every Christian community is:

  • A candle;
  • A table; and
  • A door

The candle represents the light and presence of Jesus.

The table represents sharing and community – as folk do when they natter over a meal.

The door represents coming and going: people enter for nurture and equipping and exit to serve.

This means Good News Lutheran College is also a candle, a table and a door!

Frist of all, we are a candle.  Good News is a place where people meet Jesus – through his Word as it is shared and sung in devotions, chapels and also through staff and students in the way they treat one another, and support each other.

Second, our college is a table.  Students, families and staff find a place of belonging, community and acceptance here.  Friendships are made, help is given, joys are shared – as are hurts and burdens.

Finally, our key reason for being is to serve as a door.  Students enter our gates to receive nurturing, edification, upskilling and equipping and they leave our doors to serve, making the most of what they have been given for the good of others, contributing positively to society.

A candle, a table and a door – that’s what Good News is all about!
