Our Staughton Edible Garden

Our Staughton Edible Garden

It all began with an idea and a desire to enrich learning. Providing students with the opportunity for a hands-on and practical experience of creating and managing an edible garden was this idea. Students engaged in the real- life experience of investigating and designing an edible garden, with the results being that students can growing their own produce to use in classes.

The Staughton Edible Garden has been a work in progress over the last few years. During this time staff and students have worked together building garden beds, artworks, planting crops, fertilizing, watering and harvesting a wide variety of produce.

Throughout the evolution of the garden the students are learning the importance of:

  • Working together to achieve goals
  • Sustainability
  • Caring for our environment
  • The necessity of healthy eating to maintain a healthy body
  • Life skills

Overall, students have also experienced the joy and rewards of gardening and growing produce.

Due to remote learning, our garden is in much need of some T.L.C. We are asking for staff, parent, guardians and student expressions of interest in working on this exciting project to return it to its former glory. There are many ways of getting involved and varying degrees of commitment. Every bit helps and is appreciated!

Please become involved and reap the rewards of developing, learning and enjoying this wonderful outdoor classroom and maybe even sample the produce!
