Teaching and Learning

Room 2

Mrs Watson and Mrs Hetherington’s Reception/Year 1 class

Over the past few weeks we have been getting to know each other and establishing our classroom learning community.

We have set our classroom goals and decided how we are going to work together to make our classroom a safe and happy learning environment for everyone.

We have also shared some information about ourselves.

Take a look and find out a little bit about all the children in Room 2.

Wow! What a great start to the term. The students have been working so hard since they have been back!

The R/1 students have been learning about day and night using torches and basketballs to demonstrate how it is day on one side of the world at the same time that it is night on the other side of the world.

The Year 3/4/5 students are learning about mountain ranges and how they are formed. They did a demonstration to show how when you put pressure on either side of stacked tea towels, mountains can be formed. This process mimics natural mountain landscape formations.

The Year 5/6 students learnt about earthquakes and how they occur. They used a Mars bar to demonstrate how the tectonic plates brush past each other to create movement resulting in earthquakes.

It is all happening here at West Beach! Lots of learning and lots of fun demonstrations to match. Stay tuned for more!
