From the Principal

Term 1, Week 4, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Families,

COVID19 Update

We have had several students who have had COVID19, we hope they are feeling better and look forward to having them back at school. The cases have been limited to a couple of classes and parents have been contacted by the school. Please remember if your child is feeling unwell and showing symptoms such as a cough, running nose, sore throat, shortness of breath and or a fever please keep that at home and have them undergo a COVID19 test.

A range of COVID19 restrictions will be removed from the start of next week. It's intended that these arrangements will apply from the start of week 5 (28/03/22) to the end of week 8 (25/03/22) in term 1.

As of next week the following can resume:

•Day excursions (indoors and outdoors) and incursions (held outdoors where possible). Some excursion venues may have vaccination requirements.

•Swimming lessons and sports days (spectators may attend if held outside).

•Interschool sporting competitions.

•Extra-curricular activities at the school, including choirs, band practice, instrumental lessons attended by a non-school employed music teacher.

•Prospective parent tours and information nights targeted at students considering enrolling in the school in the coming year (for example year 6 to high school) held in a COVID safe manner (attendees wearing masks when indoors, with social distancing).

Unfortunately, at this stage we still cannot have assemblies in the hall.

Home Learning While Sick or in Isolation

Teachers are not required to simultaneously deliver both a face-to-face and remote learning program for students if they are sick or required to isolate. If students cannot attend school for COVID related reasons, they can access the learning at home resources.

Learning at home lessons are available online https://www.education.sa.gov.au/our-learning-sa. Reception to year 10 students can access a minimum of 3 learning at home lessons each day.

About the lessons

The learning at home lessons:

•are designed as standalone lessons for reception to year 10 students to work through if and when required

•are delivered via video or Microsoft PowerPoint

•offer primary students literacy, numeracy, HASS and physical activity lessons

•offer English, maths, science and physical activity lessons to secondary students.

Virtual Acquaintance Night

As we have been unable to have a face to face acquaintance night we are attempting the next best thing, a virtual tour of your child’s classroom. By the end of this week (Friday 25thFebruary) each classroom teacher will have posted a virtual tour on Seesaw. This includes the specialist teachers. It will provide families an opportunity to see what their child’s classroom looks like, some of its features and some general information about the year ahead.

Parking and Safe Driving

A student was knocked of their bike earlier this week in hit and run incident near the school, the student was shaken but otherwise fine. Please exercise caution during drop off and pick up times and remind your children to always be alert on the roads.

There have been several complaints about people illegally parking around the school. Often parking is not allowed in these areas during the mornings and afternoons as it adds to congestion and makes the roads around the school unsafe and puts students (and others) at risk. Please observe the signage around the school and park where permitted.
