Student enrichment and support

Karen Ryan, Director of Student Enrichment and Support

Ms Meszaros and I have been eagerly awaiting the return of students and their families to Shelford after the summer break. We hope you all had a wonderful time over the festive season, enjoying spending time with loved ones and doing the things you enjoy doing.

We would like to send a special welcome to all of our new students and their families. We are in the process of writing Individual Education Plans for our new students and will review existing IEPs once students have had the chance to settle back into school and their new teachers know them better as individual learners in their classes.

For all students, now is the perfect time to set yourselves up well for the year ahead – it’s going to be a busy one! Create a calm, quiet work environment at home, away from distraction as much as possible. Work out a weekly or fortnightly timetable that includes school, chores around the house, sport commitments and time for yourself or with friends. Let everyone in your household know when it is your learning/study time so they can plan their activities accordingly, giving you the best chance to learn in a quieter environment. Communicate early with your parents, caregivers, teachers and Wellbeing Mentor if you are experiencing any difficulties at school and they can help you come up with a plan to overcome them.
