Our Alumni

Where Are They Now?

In our continuing investigation of where our students have gone on to post Nossal, in this edition we would like to introduce you to one of our former School Captains.

Lachy Doughty

Lachy was School Captain at Nossal in 2013 and lists some of my fondest memories as being the school camps, athletics carnivals and sporting events. In particular, a highlight was being a part of the school's hockey team which made it as far as the State Finals. His favourite subject was Physics.

Since graduating from Nossal I've taken two gap years, travelled a great deal both internationally and within Australia, dropped out of university once, joined the Army and recently re-enrolled at university in an entirely different degree.

Like all of our Alumni members who have responded to our invitation to be featured in the newsletter, we asked Lauchy if he could send us a photo of him in his workplace and we found his response quite interesting.

Lauchy explained that in his role in the Australian Army he was part of the Signals unit and as part of their work, they prefer to remain elusive and difficult to identify. The photo he shared with us then was taken at a training exercise in 2019 in which he said it was "conveniently challenging to identify me".

My advice to any students approaching the end of their time at Nossal would be, first and foremost, your ATAR score does not define you, and the decisions you make as an 18 year old now, about your studies and future career, are by no means final or limiting. If you do get the results you are aiming for and get accepted into the course you want then congratulations and good luck! However, if you don't then it's by no means the end of the world. There are a plethora of options available to you to achieve your goals and the ATAR option is just one of them.
