Start Planning Everyone…

Book Week at St Brigid’s will be celebrated from Monday 14th - Friday 18th September (the last week of term).

On Tuesday 15th September all students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character, whether we are at home or school. We will also be doing an art activity to explore some of the CBCA shortlisted books for 2020.

National Science Week & STEM at St Brigid’s.

A few weeks ago all students at St Brigid’s took part in National Science Week where students were given activities to participate in.  These activities either had a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) focus or went with the theme of National Science Week - Deep Blue: Innovation for the future and our oceans.  The aim of these activities was to give students an appreciation of the elements of Science but to also  encourage their creative and critical thinking skills.  They were encouraged to complete experiments using items in the house or to design and test a prototype in response to a provocation.

We were delighted with the engagement of our students in the Science Week activities, with some even involving brothers, sisters and parents in their activities.

The Foundation and Year 1/2 students were given a variety of science experiments they could complete at home. These activities ranged from inserting pencils into a snap lock bag of water without spilling any or creating a rain jar at home.

The Year 3/4‘s were asked to design and create a Tippy Tap as a way for people in third world countries to access running water when washing their hands.  They had to create a design and then build a prototype to test out at home.

The Year 5/6 ‘s were given a range of activities from which they got to choose. These activities included creating a parachute to drop an egg from a height without letting it crack or creating the tallest tower possible using spaghetti and baby marshmallows.

Thank you to the staff and families at St Brigid’s for embracing these challenges and providing the opportunity for all to be involved in National Science Week while Remote Learning.
