Dear College community,

It gives me great pleasure to see how well our students embraced the R U OK? Day activity this morning. This year the theme is ‘THERE IS MORE TO SAY AFTER RU OK’

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and the current circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to RU OK? Day, we have helped our students and each other know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life.

You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.

This year the College acknowledged RU OK? Day on Wednesday morning during Year Assembly and again on Friday during Pastoral Care.

A special mention to Michael Zappia in Year 12 who really took the initiative to promote mental health support in young men throughout the College community. Michael’s motivation and willingness to inspire his fellow classmates while engaging with our younger students across the College is to be commended!

The events that took place in Homeroom this week were based on helping students start a conversation around R U OK?  Our Year 12 students led the discussion and shared tips on how to get a conversation going. The morning activity was a great success and the feedback from students and staff was positive and warm.

I would like to thank all of Year 12 for getting involved and leading the RU OK? initiative!!
