PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends,

My primary message to you in this edition of Highlights is one of thanks. In what has been the most challenging term in schools for many years, our community has shown resilience, poise, calm, adaptability, co-operation and consideration.

The great lesson of the COVID19 pandemic is that is exposes weaknesses and brittleness in systems and institutions. We have seen multiple examples in other areas of public life in Australia where the stresses the pandemic created caused systems to fail.

The school system in general, and BSC specifically, has not failed. Our students, teachers and families were able to meet the challenge COVID19 presented to us this term, because they exhibited the traits I listed above. I want to acknowledge, in particular, the high levels of co-operation and consideration between teachers, students and families, which has allowed us, collectively, to adapt and be successful in the current circumstances.

I am extremely proud of all of our staff and students for working so hard to ensure remote learning was effective and successful. In particular, I want to pay tribute to the teaching staff which had to make massive changes to nearly every aspect of their professional practice. They have worked incredible hours to ensure resources have been prepared, and feedback from students about their progress was gained and given.

Next term we will see VCE students return to face-to face teaching from week two. I ask that families support the safe return of students by emphasizing the COVID-safe behaviors in respect to infection control. At this stage, we do not know when students in years 7-10 will be resuming on-site, but what I do know is that if we all continue to diligently follow the Victorian Government’s rules to prevent the spread of COVID19, we will be doing our bit to make sure it happens at the earliest possible time.

I wish you all a restful holiday.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Minack

Principal
