Middle School Report

With Term Two well under way, students have been working diligently in classes completing assessment tasks and preparing for the upcoming semester tests and exams.  There have been a number of excursions and activities over the last few weeks, and students have enjoyed a range of extra curricular activities.

During assemblies, students from both Year 9 and Year 10 were spoken to about the importance of good quality teaching and learning in classrooms.  A presentation was given outlining the guarantees that teachers at St Albans Secondary College offer students in their classes to ensure high quality learning takes place.  Students were also given advice on how best to prepare for the end of semester tests and exams.

End of semester exams for Year 10 students begin on Thursday 26th May.  For students studying English, EAL or Extension English, this will be their first exam.  Exam timetables will be made available for students to collect from the Middle School Office in the next week.  It is important that all students check the timetables carefully to ensure that they attend all exams on time.  Students who fail to attend an exam must provide a medical certificate in order for the exam to be completed at a different time.

Year 9 students will complete semester tests in their core subjects and in LOTE.  These will be done during class time the week beginning Monday 30th May.  Students should check with their teachers when these tests will be done so that they are able to organise their revision schedules.

Year 9 Activities

The ABCN Goals program launched on Friday 6th May, and students selected for the program met their mentors for the first time.  This year we will be working with employees from Norton Rose Fullbright and Ernst & Young, and for the next session, students will be travelling into the city to the offices of one of these companies.  The launch was a great success, with students and mentors both making the most of their time to get to know each other.  A big thank you to Ms Cowell for all her work in organising this year’s program for the students.

Year 10 Activities

On Wednesday 27th April, Ms Amy Lee took her Year 10 People and Places class on an excursion to Port Melbourne.  The students were so well behaved that a member of the public wrote to the school to commend them for the excellent way in which they conducted themselves on public transport and when speaking with members of the community.  Ms Bryant and Ms Panteli also took a group of Year 9 and 10 Drama students into the city to watch a live performance on Friday 6th May.  There were many positive reports on the manner in which these students conducted themselves too.  Huge congratulations to all of these students who represented the school in such a positive manner.

The Beacon Ambassadors are also working hard to prepare for our first Beacon event this year, the Beacon Business Breakfast, which was rearranged to take place on Wednesday 15th June.  Keep up the great work!

The Middle School Team wish you all the best for your tests and exams later in the term.
