Principal's Report

Highlights

What a special couple of weeks we have had at Concord School. There have been many events including the Presentation Ball, camps and our very first Upper Primary Olympics Presentation. The students are all working hard in their classrooms and developing some excellent skills. In Mathematics the students have been learning all about fractions and multiplication. In English students across the school have been learning different ways to decode and read words but also different strategies to understand what they have read. With all of this great learning taking place it is sometimes easy to forget how much work goes into our social competencies program because most of our students are displaying the skills that they are learning in these classes with their day to day interactions. Our third curriculum area is just as important to our students’ development as the core areas of English and Mathematics and the calm school environment is a testament to the value of this content.

2016 Presentation Ball

On Friday the 12th of August we held our Presentation ball at the Plenty Ranges Convention Centre in South Morang. Over two hundred guests witnessed our eighteen young men and women make the lone journey down the stairs and then strut their stuff on the dance floor. The Presentation Ball is a very special evening for Concord School and our eighteen students who participated in the ball did themselves, their families and the school proud. Some of the students started with us in Prep and it really is an outstanding way to celebrate the culmination of their amazing journey through the school. There must have been some dust around as there were very few dry eyes in the building. We must say a very big thankyou to Claire Charlesworth, Anne Park, Michael Hawkins and Therese Hickey for their excellent organization and it was terrific to see our very own Warren Gaff as MC.

National Literacy and Numeracy Week

As you know we are celebrating National Literacy and Numeracy week from Monday the 29th of August to Friday the 2nd of September. Students across the school will work together throughout the week on various activities around digital literacies and the value of these skills in the future workforce. In Mathematics students will work through several problem based location activities and in English the whole school will participate in a big read of My Two Blankets. This is a story about tolerance and acceptance of difference. Each section will invite parents and families into school to celebrate the week. Please look out for more information about this in your child’s communication book.

We will also be holding a special assembly on Monday the 5th of September at 9.15am to celebrate the week and showcase our student achievements. We hope to see you all at this event.

Upper Primary Olympic Presentation Evening

On Wednesday the 17th of August the Upper Primary Section held their very first presentation evening. This year the theme was the Olympic Games. Students demonstrated their presentation skills and discussed what they had learnt about a sport or an athlete.  It was really amazing to listen to the students talk with such excitement about the knowledge and understanding that they had about the different topics. Many families came to show their support for this new after school presentation evening. We hope that this becomes an annual event for the Upper Primary Learning team.
