Sustainability at St Raphael's

Walk to School starts now....

Officially October is Walk to School month but we thought we'd start early this year given the exciting news that our playground redevelopment works have begun.  To help ease congestion around the school and keep everyone safe, we encourage all students to try to walk, ride or scoot to school.  If you live too far from school that's okay - just get dropped off a few blocks away and travel the rest by foot.  We look forward to seeing you all spring into action and start your day in an active way!

Sustainability in STEM

Our Year 1/2 have been busy tending to our garden and creating a magical space of their own during their STEM sessions in our Outdoor Learning Space.  Here is some of what our budding reporters have to say about their experiences.

YEAR 1/2R

Chook chums:  All of us are caring for the chickens.  The chickens are running everywhere!  The chickens are running free!!

We took some photos of the chickens.  Christian and I fed nugget but it was hard to film Giuliano because the chickens move a lot.  Other kids are planting.  The planting squad said it was very fun.

Reporters and Photographers: Giuliano, Thomas and Christian

YEAR 1/2S

All of us are interviewing children that are doing their jobs. We are also reporting children doing their best.

Elsie was doing her best to make a fairy museum and Amelia was trying to make an elf home.

Valentina was caring and feeding the chickens.

Grace and Leonardo are making a fairy village and Luca and Joseph are making fairies and wizards.

Lola is making a path with Maxwell.  They are getting stones from the Prep garden.

Eliane is in the chicken shed and caring for the chickens.

Reporters and Photographers: Graziella, Marcus and Emersyn

Food Security Network

As part of our leadership program and social justice learning our Year 6 students met with Chris from the Food Security Network.  The Food Security Network educates students about food insecurity in our community and provides a solution by creating designated gardens in schools to grow fresh produce for those in need.  Our students are looking forward to caring for our garden to ensure we have a bounty of produce to deliver in weeks to come.

Woolworths Discovery Garden

Woolworths Preston has kindly donated some seedlings to our sustainability program as part of their discovery garden promotion.  To thanks them we have created scarecrow Jack in Garden Club.  Be sure to hi to Jack next time your at Woolies and have a go at planting something at home.

Changes to Garden Club

With the coming of Spring our Garden is looking great and our Garden Club numbers have grown considerably especially with our junior students.  To keep Garden Club fun and interesting for everyone we welcome the following junior school students to join us on:

TUESDAYS - FL, 1/2S, 1/2C

THURSDAYS - FJ, 1/2D, 1/2R

Garden Club loves to cook!

Our Senior students in Garden Club have been doing an amazing job of feeding our Garden Club members using produce from our garden.  Many have requested recipes so please find following some of the delicious food we've been sharing together.
