Houses/Interschool Sport Report

Since the last newsletter, one Region and numerous Division competitions have been conducted.

Congratulations to the Intermediate Girls Soccer team who qualified for Region Finals after winning two matches (Blackburn 3-0 and Box Hill Senior SC 3-1) and drawing 3-3 against Box Hill HS. The last kick of the day in this match was a goal by Anna Berrell, which ultimately got us through to the Region Finals. A big thank you to Mr Leigh Berrell who helped with linesman duties on the day.

The Intermediate Boys Badminton team narrowly missed out on progressing to the Region Finals after convincingly beating most opposition. However, their 3-3 draw against East Doncaster SC meant that the winner was decided on points and we unfortunately just missed out!!!

In this edition of the newsletter, 2 students are featured who will be representing Victoria in Swimming and Water Polo Competitions this year. I am always keen to hear about Koonung students who are excelling in the sporting arena. For this reason, I encourage you to inform me if your child has been selected for state or national competitions. Their efforts should be celebrated and shared throughout the Koonung community.

Looking ahead, there are a number of Division competitions coming up, especially for Year 7 and 8 students in AFL, Badminton, Netball and Soccer (Football).

Remember, if a student is selected to represent our school in Interschool Sport, he/she MUST get payment and consent finalised on Compass at least three business days before the competition. Failure to comply with this expectation will result in the student not being allowed to participate in the event.

Finally, always keep referring to Compass News Feed on a regular basis to keep up-to-date with all matters relating to Interschool Sport Competitions.

Intermediate Squash Report

Our team of eight players participated in the Eastern Zone Intermediate Squash competition on Thursday the 17 May at Westerfold's Squash Courts.

While there were only three schools in attendance, there were multiple teams. Melbourne High had five teams, Balwyn had four teams and Koonung fielded three teams. Unfortunately, one of our players became unwell on the day and could not compete leaving one team with only two players. Despite this, they made every effort to try to win their games.

The two other teams competed hard against some very strong competition. They had to compete against National and State players from the other schools but did their best effort.

While our teams came third for two pools and fourth for the other pool due to only having two players, they can be proud of their efforts.

Our players were Nathan Crampton, Luke Alford, Luke Humphrey, Aidan Crampton, James Ollerenshaw, Tommy Mao, Philip Apostolou, Reuben Kerron and Tim Woodfield. Thank you to all the players for you participation.
