Artist of the Week - Celeste Peh
Well done to Celeste Peh, 7D, who is this week's Artist of the Week. Celeste was nominated for Artist of the Week by Arts Teacher, Mr Stuart Rowe.
As part of the Year 7 Art - Picasso Cubist Self-portrait task, students completed representational self- portraits in grey-lead pencil. Celeste demonstrated attention to detail and dexterity in representing tone and form. This learning task assists students in considering the proportion of faces and enables them to later abstract form. Students then apply a similar colour palette to Picasso’s and utilize their representational self-portrait and abstract photo collage to create their final self- portrait. Congratulations Celeste on being artist of the week!

Picasso Cubist self portrait
For this assessment task we did an observational drawing for the start of our Cubist portrait. It took me two lessons to finish and the medium I used was a HB and 2B pencil. I liked this task because we could work on perspective and shading. I also focused on hatching and cross-hatching to change the pencil pressure on darker shadows. Something I found challenging was the eyes and the different shades between the clothes and the skin because I needed to make them look different from each other.

An update from our Art Captains
Hi, we are Friyana and Gemma, the 2018 Art captains. Art Space is a club where all students from every year level can come and work on folios or individual artworks.
It has been quite successful; as many students have found a space where they can relax, paint, draw, sculpt and more. If you are interested feel free to come and join us every Tuesday lunchtime in room 34.
We are looking forward to the upcoming Arts/Technology Week during week 8. There will be a range of activities and competitions run for students to participate in, we encourage you all to get involved. Activities include: creating cupcakes, dreamcatchers, chalk drawing and more. It’s open to everyone, so you don’t need to be an art student to join.
Check out the Arts/Technology flyer on the College Notices page in this newsletter.
We hope to see you at Art Space.

Year 7 Textiles
Year 7 textiles students have been creating some amazing block prints onto fabric. Students in 7A, 7C, 7G and 7E have being learning a range of different techniques including block printing and hand painting to create an image. There is a huge range of different designs across the classes and as students have developed their ideas to create a block print they have also learnt how to create a repetitive pattern. Students have started learning how to use sewing machines and are excited to sew their designs into a cushion cover. It is fantastic to see that no two works are the same! Well done to all of the year 7 students for showing creativity and problem solving skills throughout this task.
