Sport Aerobics
College members Emma O'Keefe (teacher) and Georgia Comline (Year 8 student) have been involved in the Sport Aerobic National Championships. Emma competed in the FISAF National titles in Brisbane on the 9th - 12th of August, placing third and qualifying for the World titles in the Netherlands. On the 24th-26th of August, both girls competed in the Schoolaerobics national titles at the Gold Coast. Each event had thousands of athletes all fighting for the top spot. However, both girls were able to fight them all off and come away with a national title each, winning the gold medal in their respective categories. This was a huge achievement for both, but particularly for Georgia as this was her first time qualifying and competing at the national titles. Emma has also secured a spot on the Australian team to represent our country at the World Championships in the Netherlands this coming October, another huge accomplishment and something she has been working towards for years.
We would like to congratulate them both on their achievements and wish Emma the best of luck in her preparation over the next few weeks, until she performs on the world stage.
Scholarship Program
On Monday 3rd September, ten McGuire College senior students attended an award ceremony at RMIT University in Melbourne where they were presented with 'Kids Under Cover' student scholarships for the 2019 school year.
Scholarship funding may be used on any item that can help students' learning and assist with the completion of their secondary education. These items may include items such as course fees, text books, computer equipment, public transport, excursions, disability aids and other specialist equipment.
With only 290 scholarships awarded across the whole of Victoria, our students are extremely grateful in receiving these scholarships that will help them progress towards their desired pathways.

Year 8 Camp
On the 20th of August, 30 year 8 students adventured to Rubicon Camp for the week. On our arrival we were taken on a tour of our camp and assigned our bunks to get settled with our roomies for the week. We were separated into our groups and introduced to our camp leaders, who would take us through each activity. The next day my group were the first to take on the rock climbing wall and abseil from the very top.
A lot of us were scared for the jump but were able to take the plunge with the rest of the group encouraging us. Cross Country Skiing was our next activity, which is a lot harder than it seems. With a lot of falls, snowball fights, a broken shoe and embarrassing photos, we trekked around the slopes for the day. We all ended up very wet, tired and ready for our bunks.
Each night ended in great food, a round of pool in the games room and stories of the days hilarious fails. We also spent a night or two celebrating birthdays, including Pageys’ and Teacher Mrs Amys!
The last day meant that my group were suited up for a day of rafting. We headed out to the river in our mini bus, the day was beautiful and warm but the water was freezing! That didn’t stop a few crazy students from tipping boats and diving in.
A big thank you to the teachers who kept us alive for the week: Mr Griffin, Ms Amy and Mrs Songberg.
