Speech Pathology Students

Student Newspaper reporters, Charlie and Monique, interviewed our visiting speech pathology students Sarah and Bligh.

Sarah and Bligh are here working with the preps, helping them with their speech and helping them when they can’t pronounce words correctly. Speech therapy builds the confidence of Prep students and helps them communicate better with others. The therapists play games that improves the children’s pronunciations of words and sounds.

As final year students at Charles Sturt University they have more classes at University, then an 8 week placement in a hospital. After final exams they hope to be qualified for work in a school or hospital or anywhere where they can work with kids.

Sarah and Bligh have already spent four weeks at Numurkah PS and will be staying another four weeks; they are placed in schools, and were lucky enough to get Numurkah! In addition, they have been to Mooroopna Park for a day to have a look at some of those students’ speech therapy and also had a look around the school.

Training to be a speech pathologist means studying at university for four years after successfully completing V.C.E..
