PROJECT ROCKIT

This is an account of our recent Project Rockit workshop.  They conduct workshops at McKinnon every year and have been doing so for many years. This report is written by three of our Year 7 students. They included the opinions of others in this report with the aim of reflecting the year level’s response.

Project Rockit is an association that creates awareness of the space we live in and the value of respect and acceptance.

On Friday 16 November, all the Year 7 students took part in the Project Rockit presentation. Boys and girls were split into two groups. The presentation was engaging and interesting.

At the beginning, the presenters introduced themselves and they explained a bit about their hobbies and personal lives. They then broke down the basics of bullying and what effect it has on different people. The Year 7s were all involved in this experience. Everyone was making suggestions on what makes a person not want to stand up to a bully. Being too nervous, having a high social status and fear of judgment were all mentioned.

After breaking down the basics of bullying we all felt we could face a bully in a real-life situation. The speech was informative but just as entertaining. We learnt different techniques on how to get out of situations where a person is getting bullied. The presenters gave us a real-life situation where they dramatised someone was in the position of being bullied. We were then asked to decide what could have been done differently, what changed the situation and what we could do if that happened to us.
