La Trobe University Schools Partnership Program

Our Year 7 and 8 students have enjoyed Schools Partnerships Program (SPP) workshops conducted by La Trobe University LTU ambassadors over the past few weeks as part of their program.  The SPP aims to introduce students to the idea of further education through a range of interactive games and activities ran by current and former LTU students.

The students enjoyed the workshops and provided feedback that the workshops helped them to see further education as a real possibility for them.  We always love it when our past students come back to facilitate these workshops and become real life role models for our students.

GV Health Careers Day

A group of twelve students from Years 9 and 10 got to go behind the scenes at GV Health to see all the career opportunities available including Engineering, Plumbing, Maintenance, IT, Warehouse Logistics, Hospitality, Human Resources, Finance and much much more.  The students learnt that GV Health is one of the top 4 biggest employers in Greater Shepparton and provides career opportunities for much more than just health.

Mock Interviews – Resilience Program

We were fortunate to have wonderful support from our community and industry for our recent Mock Interviews as part of our Year 9 and 10 Resilience Program.  Former Chief Executive Officers, business owners and current community leaders, together with the whole of the Executive Team from the City of Greater Shepparton, including the Chief Executive Officer and all Directors interviewed our students, one on one for 15 minutes and then provided group feedback to our students.

Our mock interviewers were incredibly impressed by our students presentation and interview techniques and provided excellent feedback to both the students and our staff team.  Many thanks to the Lighthouse Foundation for all their work in support our students in this program and getting such wonderful community and industry leaders in to be part of our program.

Subject Selections

It has been a busy few weeks with the process for subject selections.  Thank you to all those students and their families that sought assistance and advice with their selections and sought out that little bit of extra research to help them along the pathway.

VTAC Community Briefing

We held the VTAC Community Briefing at our College on Tuesday 6th August with a number of students and families from our attending, along with other students and families from other Colleges and regions.  This is always an informative evening and we are fortunate to be able to host it for our community.

Further Education Open Days

Many of our Year 11 and 12 students have spent the last few weeks travelling around the state to open days for universities and other further education providers to see what they have on offer for their post secondary pathways.  This is a great way for students and families to see and hear first hand about the many course offerings and pathways that further education providers and offer, as well as view the facilities that can be provided at various locations.

If you have missed an opportunity to participate in open days, please contact the further education provider you are interested in it’s not too late.  Further education providers will gladly host you and your family on a private tour over the school holidays.  Just contact the provider you are interested in and get it booked in.!!!

University Applications

I am currently working with Year 12 students on their applications to university for 2020.  Most students are applying to university throughout Victorian system – VTAC.  However we have a few students who are applying outside Victoria.  It is important for you to talk to your child/ren about where they are applying to and be aware of the closing dates for applications – both for courses, special consideration and scholarships.  For VTAC please visit www.vtac.edu.au  For other states, please google university entry with the state name your child is applying for.
