Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Wow, what an amazing week for the Inquiry Centre. Congratulations on your first full week of online learning. We have all loved how much effort all our students have put into their Seesaw activities, and love being able to read them and provide feedback. In addition, a massive thank you for all the hard work parents and families have put in to helping us have a successful week. We cannot understate how important your support and feedback has been over the last few weeks. We understand that this change has been challenging for all and in response to your feedback we would like to communicate the following points:

We are working towards Seesaw activities being accessible to students independently

Students can use pen and paper to complete SeeSaw activities as an option. See reminders for instructions.

It is normal for students' work to be messy or not perfect. At school, we talk about celebrating mistakes as they help challenge us to learn and grow.

We do not want students and their families to feel pressured or overwhelmed by these activities at any time. Missing activities or responding later in the week is acceptable.

Please keep your child's teacher informed about changes and challenges along the way so that we can work to support you and your child further.

In Literacy this week, we enjoyed practising our Procedural writing! From reading and creating a ‘Wombat Stew’, to designing our own recipe for something we have made or prepared to eat, we loved seeing you using command verbs and adjectives to describe your procedures. Hopefully you can keep practising this skill as you cook, make or create things while working at home! We also set up EPIC this week for our classes. You should’ve received an email regarding instructions to sign up, as this is another great resource to practise our reading! We are looking forward to exploring this site with you together.

In Maths this week we reviewed our knowledge on months and seasons, probability and expanded our knowledge of directions and mapping. It was so much fun to see your house maps and treasure hunt designs. Thank you to families for your help with this one!

In Wellbeing we absolutely loved all the strength spotting you all did within your families and friends! What a great skill it is to look at the qualities of the people we know so well, by spotting their strengths!

Lastly, in Guided Inquiry we used our creativity and curiosity to explore the topic of change as we did an experiment about what living things need to live and how seeds change and grow over time. Perhaps there will be some lovely plants grown by the time we go back to school from this experiment!

Thanks for a great week and we are looking forward to another fantastic week online! Just as your classroom teachers explained on Friday, due to parent feedback we have changed the time back to 8 am for when daily activities are posted on Seesaw, however you will continue to see our smiling faces at 9:30 am as we look forward to you commenting on our check-ins.

Thank you,

Emma Honan, Aidain O’Connor , Emma Marsh , Kathy Wang, Andy Parthenopoulos, Emily Kiefte , Simone Rock and Erin Bennetts
