Preps Week 4

“The one who holds the pencil does the learning!”

In the prep department we have defied the odds by making FWPS history this week. Our students were given opportunities to engage in face to face meetings using Google Meet.  To finally see our Preps, hear their voices and see their gorgeous little faces, smiling cheek to cheek, was a joyful experience as well as an emotional one.   Week 4 has bought with it a sense of normalcy for many by reconnecting students, and allowing them a space to connect with each other, after a long stretch of not seeing one another at school. What a wonderful uplifting week it has been, all thanks to the collective efforts of all involved, working together to make this possible. What a wonderful team we all make! Thank you!

In reading, the preps have been very busy building on highly effective literacy strategies to become successful readers, by using the sounds at the beginning of words and then reading through the whole word.   Our letter focus has been on J and the sound it makes. We have been retelling events in sequence using pictures from our favourite stories and knowing that we can make meaning from written and pictorial texts through prediction

In writing we have been having lots of fun writing menus.  Practising writing conventions, by understanding the difference between a sentence, a word and letter.  Preps are learning about capital letters and when to use them in sentences and identifying how many words and spaces in a sentence. Studying onset and rime to make new ‘ad’ words and in handwriting, using origami, the art of paper folding to continue to build fine motor skills.

In maths, we have been exploring time and pattern. Students have been learning about patterns through movement and by creating their own using a variety of natural materials.

As part of our integrated unit students are learning more about our environment and how and why it is important to look after it. Our preps have been finding out where rubbish goes once we throw it away and understanding what recycling is.

The preps continue to work on using a growth mindset and putting personal best effort into their remote learning tasks.

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a lovely week and take care!
