Foundation–Celebrating Learning

Foundation Mainstream

We've been tuning into sounds like ch, sh and th and have just started the short vowel sounds this week. A as in pat, E as in pet, I as in pit, O as in pot, and U as in hut. In particular we're thinking about how these sounds are made by changing the shape of our mouths.

We're almost up to thirty days of school. The students have been doing a wonderful job of remembering that the first numeral in a two digit number represents groups of ten  (the 2 in 23 for example) and the second numeral represents how many more. When referring to twenty three we say twenty three is "two groups of ten and three more"

We are continuing to write and draw responses to the books we are reading.

We are also beginning to investigate the idea of personal strengths in our respectful relationships curriculum.

Many thanks for your continued support and care with each other and the children.

Foundation Team.

Ps. we've had several requests for the lyrics to some of the songs we sing at school.

Below is "the rainbow song" (Tali is still trying to find who the composer is as he learnt it as a child!)

This song is a very sweet way to initiate conversations about difficulties passing eventually, even when they seem overwhelming!

Darkness changes to morning light

After sorrow happiness will grow

After winter, springtime comes again

After rain the rainbow

Keep hoping for a while, a smile my friend

is beginning at the end of the rainbow

Can it be nature smiles at me?

I think it's true, I'm smiling too

Here comes the rainbow

Earth has washed its dusty face

Its clothes are clean and hanging out to dry

Can't you see the world is new again?

There's a promise in the sky

Keep hoping for a while, a smile my friend

is beginning at the end of the rainbow

Can it be nature smiles at me?

I think it's true, I'm smiling too

Here comes the rainbow

In the past few weeks we have been learning about playing cooperatively in the classroom and working together, especially to build houses! We have also been learning about the changes in the season and how to draw straight and curved lines.
