trailblazers

Last term some grade 5/6 students participated in a Trailblazers program where we worked in small teams to develop activities that we shared with the junior school. The aim was to learn decision making and problem-solving skills, assertive communication strategies and resilience and leadership.

We would like to invite parents of children in grades 3 to 6 to attend an information evening with the organizer, Kate Wilde. It will be held in the evening of Thursday the 14th from 6.30 and will run for 90 minutes. Please come along and learn more about how you can support your children as they enter their last years of primary school.

Hope to see you there.

Trailblazers, Senior and Welfare Teams.

grade 2 first nations cultural incursion

BNWPS has been fortunate to be one of the primary schools selected to participate in Moreland City Council's First Nations Cultural incursions program. The workshops will involve Year 2 students. The Year 2s will communicate what they have learned after the event with their Year 1 peers. The workshop will focus on the Aboriginal history and culture within Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Country, and will include links to Year 1/2's term 4 Inquiry topic 'celebrations'. Cross-cultural understanding is necessary to increase our community's cultural awareness in terms of understanding Indigenous identity and history. Active involvement of members of the community in school activities is a great way of doing this. The workshops will help to encourage students to develop a respect for, and understanding of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices. Uncle Bill will deliver the program. He "is passionate about sharing his extensive cultural knowledge with the broader community.”

volunteering @ BNW

We pride ourselves for our sense of belonging as it is beneficial for everyone. Family involvement in school strengthens our young people's connection to their education, it demonstrates the community connection many families choose our school for and helps us provide the best educational program and environment possible. In an attempt to better communicate with those interested in volunteering, the school is trying to build a volunteer register. We would love all family members to complete this short survey to help us collect this information. All information will be kept private and no one will be asked to commit to any volunteer work in the survey.

There are so many different ways to become involved in your child's education and we love it when you want to get involved, but we must remind all family members that Working with Children Check cards are required by law.
