Colgate community garden challenge

Francis McGinley, Year 4 Classroom Teacher

As part of a new initiative, we’ve decided to enter into a competition to collect and recycle oral care waste and earn online votes in the Colgate Community Garden Challenge.

The more Garden Points, the more chances we have of winning products to help with our garden!

1 unit of oral care waste = 10 Garden Points.

We will hold an oral care collection at Main Reception and Senior School Reception between Weeks 1 – 9 of Term 2 (19 April – 11 June). Your job is to bring any oral care product you’ve finished with at home and drop them off at the Receptions.

The more products we collect, the better chance we have of winning some garden prizes for our NEW 2021 Kilvington Veggie Patch!

Bread tie collection

We have now completed a small bread tie collection – more than 1000 - for recycling with Terra Cycle.

The bread ties are cleaned, melted into hard plastic and then re-molded to make new recycled products such as wheelchairs. This prevents them ending up in landfill, and for every kilogram collected, $1 is donated to ‘Keep Australia Beautiful’, a not-for profit organisation.

Thank you to all our students and families for your support.

Flexischools announcement

We are pleased to confirm the introduction of a new online ordering system called Flexischools, which will allow you to place all your canteen orders online at any time.

The paper bag and cash process is still permitted with a view to phase this out in due course. The pick-up system of lunch orders from the canteen will remain unchanged.

We anticipate extending the Flexischool system to Senior School students in the coming weeks. Until then, the current system of ordering and pick-up of lunch orders remains unchanged.

To get started, download the Flexischools app from the App Store or Google Play. For information on how to set up your account, click here

Once registered, you can start placing orders immediately. If you have any questions, please visit Flexischool’s FAQ page. Attached is a flyer with further information.

We hope this step forward will support families with a more convenient and efficient process of placing canteen orders.

School TV - raising girls

Raising girls in today’s modern world can be a difficult path for parents and carers to navigate. These days, girls are transitioning to puberty a lot earlier than they used to and the physical, psychological and emotional changes they experience are challenging.

In this edition of School TV, adult carers will attain a clearer picture of what girls are wanting from their adult carers and how best to support them through adolescence.

School TV special report - vaping & e-cigarettes

Vaping is becoming a trendy pastime that is growing in popularity across Australia, especially amongst teenagers.

It is the act of inhaling a vapour created by an electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette. Many teenagers are succumbing to peer pressure around this risk-taking activity due to the ease of accessing and hiding vapes.

This Special Report highlights the facts around vaping and e-cigarettes and what are the potential risks. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the School for further information or seek medical or professional help.
