Jazz cabaret

Matthew O'Leary and Charlotte Glassel, Year 12

On Friday 26 March, our talented musicians came together in Dalton Hall for the annual Jazz and Blues Cabaret.

Not only was this the first performance of 2021, but it was also the first time many of us had performed live in over a year, making the event all the more special.

The enthusiastic audience thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment presented by our performers. Our Stage Band, Percussion Ensemble, Krooners, Kadances, Contemporary Choir, and variety of solo/group acts sprinkled out over the evening are all to be commended for their fabulous performances.

This year’s Cabaret was especially notable for featuring the premiere performances of both the Kantabile Choir and the Kilvington Dancers, whose talent equally shone through.

Our gratitude goes out to those who were there to support the event and make the night a success. We would like to thank our Music Captain, Cindy Yi, and our Dance Captains, Sara Dorne and Kaitlyn Connolly, who worked with us tirelessly to assist in planning and running the evening.

We would also like to extend our thanks to all of the staff who prepared us for this performance, as well as to our Production Captain, Natasha Redlich, who helped run backstage, and Cassidy Lyovic, for her photography skills.

Of course, the night would not have been possible without our fabulous Academic Dean of Performing Arts – Ms Nicole Bull. We are forever thankful to her for providing all students with diverse opportunities to perform, and for developing the Kilvington Performing Arts Program – now including dance!

We once again congratulate our performers for ensuring that this year’s Kilvington Cabaret was a night to remember.

Instrumental performance concert

Alessia Di Felice, Year 8

On Tuesday 30 March, we held one of our first music concerts in over a year - Instrumental Performance Night. After not being able to perform for over twelve months, it was exciting to feel the nerves and anticipation of getting ready to perform.

Some of the highlights of the evening included the Concert Band playing Epic Gaming Themes and Mas Que Nada, the Chamber Strings performing Irish Party in the Third Class and the Final Countdown, as well as the Kilvington Orchestra performing Satchmo and Seventy Six Trombones to close the evening.

As well as this, many senior students played solos, including 2021 Music Captain, Cindy Yi, who performed Danza del Gaucho Matrero on the piano. The performance of the skilled musicians and the excitement of playing again after a year made for a wonderful instrumental performance night.

Friday afternoon soirees

Friday afternoon soirees re-commence today, Friday 30 April, starting at 3.45pm and concluding at 4.30pm. The Soirees provide a brilliant opportunity for music and speech/drama students of all levels, who learn to perform in front of a supportive audience, both at School and privately.

All performances must be booked in, either by writing your name and details of your performance on the Friday afternoon soiree forms pinned up on the Notice Board in the Music building foyer, or by emailing Ms Carmel Slater (Head of Keyboard and Theory) at slaterc@kilvington.vic.edu.au.

Items should be no longer than 3 - 4 minutes, with a maximum of 14 items. Please contact Ms Slater for further information.

Matilda

Tickets for Matilda will be available through Trybooking as of Monday 3 May, and the community will be emailed the Trybooking link Monday morning.

Please note that the Department of Education and Training has advised that density limits continue to apply in an education setting. This means we will only be able to accommodate 150 seats per performance.

As a result, we have set a limit of four tickets per family. Thank you for your understanding as we endeavour to offer the whole community the opportunity to enjoy our first production since 2019.

We look looking forward to an evening of fun and entertainment and supporting all our students and staff who have put an enormous amount of time and effort into this fantastic production.
