Mathematics Competition

Early in Term 3, all students from Years 7 and 8 and 21 students from Year 9, entered the Australian Mathematics Competition (one of the largest Mathematics competitions in the world). Students from other Year Levels were unable to complete the competition before Remote Learning 2.0 commenced. This competition tests everything from basic numeracy skills through to advanced problem solving. The Australian Mathematics Competition is conducted by the not-for-profit Canberra based Australian Mathematics Trust under the trusteeship of the University of Canberra.
As a general rule, the top 0.3% of students are awarded prizes, the top 2% of students receive High Distinction Certificates, the top 15% of students receive Distinction Certificates and the top 50% of students receive Credit Certificates. For the Senior division these figures are 0.3%, 5%, 25% and 60% respectively. A Proficiency Certificate was awarded to all students who have achieved a pre-set score but have not been awarded a Credit (or higher) Certificate.
We had 31 students receive a Credit Certificate and 56 receive a Proficiency Certificate.
Distinction Certificates were awarded to: Campbell Glazebrook, Charlize Fairbairn, Tabitha Dettling, Olivia Houlihan, Monet Graham, Kyle Rhook and Kaitlyn Tonissen
Campbell Glazebrook was the Best in School Award Winner. This award recognises the student with the highest score in a school (after statistical calibration), based on the minimum achievement of a Distinction award, and minimum of 50 competition entries for a secondary school.
The Distinction and Credit certificates were presented at Year Level assemblies. Other certificates were distributed in their Mathematics class.
Congratulations to all of the students mentioned and to everyone who entered the competition.
