I Am an Author
One of the many learning highlights this year has been seeing our students’ talents emerge as writers. ‘This confidence and desire to shape our own story captures the essence of the statement, ‘I am an author’ and I am able to shape and design my world, not merely be influenced by it.’ (C Britt, J. McLachlan)
There are three elements to authorship:
This year our students have discovered that they are indeed authors, and they are able to think, influence and remember. Here is some of what our year six students included in their memoirs as they remembered their time at BBPS and their 2020 year as the leaders.
At their Graduation on Monday evening, we used the words of a famous song writer who, in recent times has been recognised with a Nobel prize for literature. Bob Dylan composed and used his words to think, to influence and to remember.
2020 Graduation
Forever Young – Bob Dylan
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the starsAnd climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
May you grow up to be righteous,May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truthAnd see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
May your hands always be busy,…
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundationWhen the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young.
Year 6 Memoirs Padlet
Hannah D – Shared a personal discovery upon entering Year 6, ‘I now know that I have the perfect teacher.’
Hugh B - Shared a timeline of his years at BBPS ‘From February 1st 2014 to December 18th 2020 I have been at the amazing BBPS…learning life lessons for future use’.
Matthew Upstill - Shared a recount of a history making student swim team that took out first place. He describes in detail how it went from Jack to Oaks to Will to Matt who miraculously turned into Aqua Man to swim for his team mates and hit the wall by point 2 of a second to take our first place – ‘It was as if they had won the Nobel Prize’
Ayane – who used to be scared of dogs but now she writes ‘…I love dogs!’
Jaime – Reflected on how important ‘relationship’ is, particularly family and how they help you to trust yourself so ‘even in tough times – I still managed to get through it.’
Finley shared 4 key pieces of wisdom: to have a positive mindset; to always give things a go because with time and practice it becomes easier; that feeling nervous can help you perform at your best; you have to recognise and confront your anxieties.
Nico Shaw finishes his memoir with this beautiful reflection -
I’d like to thank Brighton Beach Primary School for being a safe and inclusive school, for helping me to make friends and for my happy memories
Mary Mihailidis says even though we had Covid-19 this year it still has been amazing. First of all having the best teachers in the world,… bringing pets like dogs and bunnies and last of all having the best peers + friends helping us in times of need.
Year 6 has been the best year ever.
Ruby Even though I never wanted to leave Red Hill Consolidated School, coming to Brighton Beach Primary School was the best thing I could have possibly done, and it has made me, me!
